Congratulations! Your orthodontic treatment has been completed successfully. To preserve the result we have achieved, it is very important that you follow the rules of the retention phase.
Lingual Retainer (Fixed Bonded Wire)
The lingual retainer wire bonded to the inner surface of your teeth after treatment helps keep your teeth in their new positions.
- We recommend that lingual retainers (the wires placed on the inner side of the teeth) remain in place for life.
- Over time, retainers may become deformed, detached or broken.
- Retainers may need to be repaired or completely renewed at certain intervals.
- If you notice any breakage, detachment or loosening of your retainer, please contact our clinic as soon as possible.
- When necessary, your retainer can be remade and charged according to the Turkish Dental Association (TDB) fee schedule.
Night Guards (Clear Retainers)
Night guards are an important retention tool that helps preserve your treatment result for many years.
- For the first 6 months, you must wear your retainers every night while sleeping.
- After the first 6 months, as long as there is no change in your teeth, we recommend wearing your retainers 1 night per week.
- Over time, retainers may break, loosen, deform or wear out. In such cases a new retainer may need to be made.
- Making a new retainer is charged according to the TDB fee schedule.
Follow-up Appointments
Check-ups during the retention phase are important for assessing whether the treatment result is being maintained.
- Your first check-up after treatment will be at 6 months.
- Subsequent check-ups are carried out once a year unless there is a problem.
- Our clinic does not routinely call you for check-up appointments. When it is time for your check-up, please call our clinic to make an appointment.
Important Reminder
After orthodontic treatment, teeth have a lifelong tendency to move. For this reason, regular use of your retainers and night guards is essential to maintaining the result achieved. Whenever you notice any breakage, detachment, poor fit or shifting of your teeth, please contact our clinic without delay.
